It’s not just a question of factual errors. The main problem is that Maupin seems to be trying to fit the conflict into a simplistic anti-imperialist narrative — which in Yemen’s case doesn’t really work.

Outside the mainstream media there has been plenty of independent analysis — by Ginny Hill, Helen Lackner and Iona Craig, among others — but Maupin seems to have little knowledge of the background to the conflict. There’s also plenty of information and discussion of it on my website at

RT is welcome to criticise western media but if it wants to do so it ought to set a good example with its own coverage. Broadcasting stuff like this from Maupin just makes it look ridiculous.
